A Stone Sealing Service in Spring, TX, Restored This Slate Floor's Beautiful Appearance
September 20, 2017
This home in Spring, Texas, had a beautiful slate floor in its living room. The stone tiles had many different earthy tones that made the living room look cozy. Unfortunately, the once beautiful slate tiles had become incredibly dull with time. They looked almost as if they had just come out from the quarry. Searching online for what could be done to improve the look of this living room floor, the homeowner typed in 'professional Spring Stone sealing service.' She clicked on the first search result, which led her to Sir Grout Houston's website. She checked out the work we've previously done and read the reviews left by our clients and then contacted us using the online form to get a free evaluation and quote. Why is slate so popular in construction?
Slate is a very fine-grained metamorphic stone that has been used for roofing and flooring for centuries. There are many features that make slate a great construction material. For example, it has two lines of breakability, which make it possible for the stone to be split into thin sheets while retaining its natural appearance; it's very durable, and it can be incorporated into diverse design projects. Because slate comes in various colors, such as black, different shades of blue, green, red, brown, and buff, it is possible to create different looks that would enhance any architectural style.
The problem with our client's floor
This particular floor had tiles of many different colors, virtually comprising all the spectrum of slate colors available. The tile pattern was also interesting, creating an elegant composition.
However, we noticed the floor in question looked discolored and lackluster, and the slate tiles had lost their once beautiful appearance. We explained to the client that in order to recover the floor's appearance, the area needed a stone cleaning and sealing service, after which, the stone would look beautiful and bright again. After offering them an estimated budget and time of completion, we agreed on a date to carry out the job.
On the day of the job
- Stone cleaning
Before we start any job, the first thing we do is mask off and protect all areas adjacent to the floor or counter top we are going to work on, and that's exactly what we did upon arriving to this client's home. After that, we proceeded to clean the surface with a cleaner specially formulated to work on natural stone and a soft brush scrubbing system to remove the dirt that had built up on the stone's surface. After thoroughly cleaning the floor, we used the wet vacuum to remove the residual cleaner.
- Color sealing
Once the floor was completely dry, we continued with color sealing the grout—the original grout seemed to have been applied irregularly, so we used this method to even both the color and the spaces between the slate tiles. Next, we proceeded to seal the stone surface.
- Stone sealing
Stone sealing has both a practical and an aesthetic function. On the practical side, it seals and protects natural stone surfaces from external agents, preventing stains and dirt that could damage the stone and from water or other liquids penetrating the naturally porous surface. We used Sir Grout's color enhancing sealer. Our color enhancing formula is U.V. resistant, providing maximum stain protection from oil and water based agents. On the aesthetic side, it highlights and enhances the beauty and character of natural stone.
At the end of the day
As you can see from the before and after pictures, the treatments we did on the floor dramatically changed the appearance of the slate tiles, making them look brighter and refreshed. Our client was extremely happy with the results and thanked us for a job well done. We took the opportunity to offer them some advice that would help them keep the floor looking beautiful, such as the use of a cleaner specifically formulated for natural stones. We also explained that natural stones need occasional professional maintenance to guarantee they keep their lustrous appearance.
